How does pineapple grow?
The pineapple comes from the bromeliad family. It has its origin in America. Nowadays, however, it is cultivated in most of the tropical countries. The fruit grows on a stem. Outside there are long, narrow and pointed leaves. The leaves look something like the leaves that grow on top of the fruit. They're just a lot longer and narrower. The plant is evergreen and perennial and it has roots in the soil. It multiplies through side shoots.

In the middle of the pineapple plant, many small flowers that bloom purple are formed on the vegetation trunk. These grow together to form a single fruit - the pineapple. When the flowers have faded, the fruit really begins to grow. It takes a long time to harvest a pineapple. This can take 1 to 2 years before a ripe fruit can be harvested.
Pineapple plants are quite straightforward to grow. The soil can be both peaty and sandy. It is just not allowed to form waterlogging. The plant can withstand heat and drought very well. However, the plant does not like temperatures below 15 degrees!

I found very nicely described instructions on how to grow a pineapple plant from a pineapple and - with a little luck - to harvest a new pineapple at some point.
